Saturday Quiz Time is a weekly publication that sends thousands of Australians a jam-packed edition of quizzes and puzzles every Saturday morning.

Can you take us to the next level? We’re looking for a Lead Quiz Writer & Producer to lead our weekly edition’s creation, editing and delivery.

This is a massive opportunity for a highly skilled quiz and puzzle enthusiast to take the lead in shaping and delivering one of Australia’s favourite weekend pastimes. If this sounds like something you’re up for, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire production pipeline of a weekly edition, from brainstorming quiz category ideas to scheduling our SMS and email.
  • Collaborate with our existing team of writers, editors, and verifiers to maintain the high standard and unique style of our quizzes, while gradually stepping into a leadership role in shaping the weekly editions.
  • Take a holistic approach to the weekly edition to ensure a diverse offering of content.
  • Create original, engaging quiz categories that challenge and enlighten our audience.
  • Assist in the creation and editing of our weekly puzzle offerings, including fan favourites “Who Am I”, “Quizmaster Flash” and “Out of Order”.
  • Liaise with our freelance content contributors.
  • Send a draft link of our weekly edition to our verifiers and executive producers and implement feedback.
  • Manage our weekly content workflow through our content management system on GitHub.
  • Lead the writing, editing and delivery of our monthly “Selects” quizzes, where we deep-dive on specialty subjects.
  • Revise, edit, and proofread content consistently throughout the week to ensure accuracy, clarity, and interest.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in producing, editing and delivering high-quality content.
  • Native English speaker or exceptionally proficient EAL.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian history and culture.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Familiarity with various quiz formats and a keen interest in puzzles and games.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Bonus Skills

  • You know the American-style crossword format. If you have experience constructing American-style crosswords, that’s even better!
  • Experience working with the Markdown format.

The Right Person Will Be

  • A lover of quizzes and puzzles, whether it’s binge-watching seasons of Jeopardy and Only Connect, or you can’t move on with your day until you’ve completed an online puzzle.
  • Have their finger on the pulse of pop culture and current events. Available most Saturday mornings.

The Nitty Gritty

This is a permanent part-time position. This role would require 2 days (16 hours) a week; however, as the role grows and progresses, we can be flexible with the hours necessary.

You’ll spread your hours throughout the week. For example, you might draft the initial version on Monday, then incorporate feedback and finalise it for publication on Friday.

Salary will range between $75,000-$95,000 (pro-rata) based on experience. Salary is exclusive of super.

You will need to be available most Saturday mornings, just on standby. As long as you’re within arms reach of the internet and your computer, you’re good!

This is a fully remote position. Applicants must be located in Australia.
